Introduction and Usage
Isopentane, also known as 2-methylbutane, is an organic compound with a chemical formula of C5H12. It is a colorless transparent liquid with a pleasant aromatic smell. It is insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and soluble in hydrocarbons. Most organic solvents such as , ether, etc. are mainly used in organic synthesis, and also as solvents and foaming agents for
polystyrene. Isopentane can be mixed with n-pentane to make EPS and it also can be mixed with cyclopentane as a foaming agent for rigid urethane foam. The details as follows ,
(1)Be used as catalyst solvent in polyethylene production, foaming agent of combustible polystyrene, foaming agent of polyurethane foam system, deasphalting solvent, etc
(2)Be used as a solvent, it has the same function as pentane, hexane, heptane, etc., and its solubility is slightly worse than pentane. It has a high octane number and can be used as fuel for automobiles and aircraft.
(3)Be used as a standard substance for chromatographic analysis, organic synthesis, and also as a solvent
